Bring on the Vance twins.. what an education!
I was really struck by this book. It opened up my eyes to see issues beyond my own experience.
I attended the VT book signing event and got to meet the twins in person. I read this book in record time which never happens! The twins adventures in their motherland searching for their family is intriguing and fun! They have a wonderful sibling relationship that shows through in Janine's writing. I can't wait to read her first book!
In this book, you will follow along as the author discovers issues surrounding adoption that challenge her early childhood beliefs. The puzzle pieces start to slowly come together on this trip to Korea. The story uncovers questionable information that leads to further exploration in future books of this series.
I read the ENTIRE book from front to back in 2 days! That is RECORD time for me!
As a Korean Adoptee, and an aspiring author, it is important to me to learn about other adoptees stories, international adoption and our "motherland". I learned more about Korea and International adoption from this book than I've ever learned in 36 years of life. The information was really enlightening. So much of what I was told or assumed as a child about Korea was not true. So much of what I suspected as I've gotten older was true.
This is a continuation of the book 'Twins Found in a Box' where the twins travel to Seoul Korea to search for their Korean parents. I won't spoil the story but I did learn Korean adoptees have a lot of challenges that are placed in front of them that many people are ignorant of. For one, many did not become US citizens when adopted which I believe is not child protection at all! If no country claims them as their own how does this protect an infant or adopted child, especially if the child is abused? That in itself is abuse! For those who are not adopted this definitely is the book to take an adventure that you may not know anything about. The author is very progressive in her writing which makes it even more intriguing and interesting and again she makes me think about stuff I never ever had to worry about. I can't wait to read more of her books.
